2. Cross Cottage
In 1911, we believe that Edgar Wooldridge, a coachman, lived here with his wife, Beatrice Maud (née Houghton), their son, Leslie aged 4 months, and step daughter Dorothy aged 5 years.
There are no other official records of their life in Ombersley at this time. The couple’s marriage in 1910 and the birth of their their second son, Charles, on 7 Jan 1914, were both registered in the Kidderminster rather than the Droitwich district, suggesting they felt closer ties to that town.
In 1939, Edgar, Beatrice and Charles lived at 171 Chester Road North, Kidderminster: Edgar was working as a chauffeur whilst Charles had become a motor mechanic and volunteered as a fireman.
